Seymour Racing Club wraps up 2025-26 season with Studs and Farms Day

A bumper nine-race card was on offer for punters in the final meeting of the 2025-26 season at Seymour Racing Club on Sunday, July 19, with plenty of on-track action capping yet another stellar year.

As well as being the final meeting of the season, it was also Studs and Farms Day, with the club celebrating the local studs and farms that contribute massively not only to the region, but also the wider racing and thoroughbred industry.

While rain throughout the week had rendered the track a Heavy 9, No Friends showed no signs of being held up in the heavy going, the two-year-old colt kicking off proceedings with a win in race one, the bet365 Bet Boost Handicap, to give trainer Adrian Corboy and jockey Blaike McDougall a triumphant start to the day.

The partnership of Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr snared a win with Dustee in race two, hoop Jett Stanley aboard as the two-year-old gelding took out the Early Espionage Speed Maiden Plate over 1000m by half a length, while Kilmore-based trainer David Dean saluted with Works Dirty in race three, the Mangalore Park Maiden Plate over 1100m, with apprentice jockey Ruby Lamont steering the $61 outsider to a dominant victory by four lengths.

Trainer Chris Calthorpe and jockey Fred Kersley combined for a similarly impressive win with Media Puppet in the Haeusler's Maiden Plate, race four on the card, while the elder Michael Kent found victory in race five, the Racetrack Vets Maiden Plate over 1600m, with Luke Currie aboard A Long Story Short.

One Long Day was first past the post in the Magic Millions Digital BM62 Handicap, ensuring trainer Melody Cunningham and jockey Luke Nolen didn’t leave the track empty-handed, while the Seymour Park — Stud Hand Appreciation BM62 Handicap was taken out by Governor King, trained by Henry Dwyer and ridden by John Allen.

Bendigo-based Jarrod Robinson celebrated a winner with Scoobartie in the Blue Gum Farm — Libertad BM62 Handicap, with the experienced Brad Rawiller delivering a brilliant ride, while Lamont finished off the afternoon in style, claiming a double with victory in the Tallarook Rural Supplies BM62 Handicap on board Zourain for Cranbourne-based trainer Robbie Griffiths.

While Studs and Farms Day marked the end of the 2025-26 season at Seymour Racing Club, punters won’t have to wait long at all for the new season to begin.

The 2026-27 season will get under way in the first week of August, with Members’ Day on Friday, August 7, officially signalling the start of a brand new campaign, one which will see the club take a significant step forward with its offerings.

For the first time in its history, Seymour Racing Club will host twilight racing, with three twilight meets pencilled in for Thursday, November 12, Thursday, December 17, and Thursday, January 14.

The bet365 Seymour Cup also looms as another huge event, with avid racing fans circling Sunday, October 11, on their calendars.
