The aim was to introduce the community to shooting sports via supervised clay target shooting.
The event was attended by 62 participants both young (over the age of 12) and mature-aged.
The weather turned it on, with a glorious winter sunshine and clear skies.
The participants were welcomed by club president Peter Murphy and then received a firearm safety lesson from John Leatham.
Additionally Locky O’Conner provided a firearm demonstration.
The participants were assigned an instructor, and then proceeded to shoot a round of 25 clay targets under supervision of the instructor, who loaded the shotgun on every occasion, one shell at time.
As the participants circled through the layout, the accuracy improved.
As one participant commented at the end of the round: “That was a blast — another item checked off the bucket list.”
The next club shoot at the Lambing Gully Rd range is Saturday, August 6, a 75-target competition, with new members welcome.
Club members are also out maintaining nest boxes and hen houses as the waterfowl breeding commences in earnest, with excellent habitat conditions.
