Under-12 girls

Friday night saw the Tiger girls take on the top team St Therese’s. In chilly conditions, our girls did a great job getting in there and attacking the ball.
It was great to see the girls putting into practice the skills we had been working on at training.
The girls continued to impress our crowd with their efforts. Led by our captain courageous for this week Alida, the girls played their best against a fast and skilled opposition.
Mila played a great game through the middle, finishing with one of the best chase and tackles that I have seen.
With many of our girls competing in the cross country event during the day then backing it up with a full game of footy, they played their hearts out.
None more so than Macey who ran the entire game, chasing, tackling and getting plenty of possessions.
This earned Macey the movie award for the week, she was well supported by Willow with the Café Rochester Award and Mackenzie with our one percenter award.
Well done to our girls, who should hold their heads high for the way they played the entire game out against a strong opposition along with their continuous display of good sportsmanship. They did themselves, the club, the coach and all the supporters proud.
Rochy 1.0 (6) lost to St Therese’s 14.13 (97)
Under-12 mixed
After a two-week break, the under-12 boys were keen to get back on the field this week to take on the Runnymede Rebels.
Runnymede brought its best, but the Rochy boys did what their coaches asked, playing in front and attacking the ball.
In his first week in the forward line this season, Harrison Wilkins dominated, marking many contested balls and kicking four goals.
Wilkins efforts were matched by Maddox Parker and Seth Hunter who worked the ball strongly through the mid-field feeding the forward line.
The first goal of the match went to birthday boy, Partick O’Sullivan.
Goals flowed steadily after that throughout the game with Cooper Rasmussen, Jack Howe, Walt James, Jaxon Wolfe, Archie Watson, Harrison Pangrazio, Maddox Parker and Noah Broucek all adding to the scoreboard.
While the forwards got plenty of the ball, the back line held strong too, with Nash Riordan and Jack Holmberg commended for running hard and applying great pressure.
Strong tackling by all was followed up with impressive second and third efforts at the ball, resulting in a comprehensive win by the young Tigers.
Rochester 15.10 (100) Defeated Runnymede 2.2 (14)

Under-14 mixed
Entering its first match following grading games in the Bendigo Junior Football League, the under-14 side were eager to continue their attacking style of play which has seen them play some excellent football early in the season.
Pitted against Golden Square, a long battle was held across the day, with some prime movers in the side continuing to challenge the opposition on regular occasions.
Harvey Keating started strongly, taking advantage of some advantageous ruck work at stoppages, and was able to link up with Asher Rasmussen to provide numerous forward attacks.
Golden Square’s defence made work difficult for the Tiger forwards and goals were hard to come by early in the match.
Coach Tim Rasmussen pleaded with his charges to stick to their game plan of link up handballs and to ensure they hit up easy targets.
The second quarter saw a great response, capitalising on the forward thrusts from Zac Morgan, whose metres gained throughout the match were enormous.
Injuries began to mount up for the young Tigers, with Keating having to come from the ground after a collision.
At half-time, the message from Rasmussen was surrounded around the opportunity for others to step up in the third term, while some structural changes were required in an attempt to break the match open.
Judd Cuttriss weaved through traffic to hit the scoreboard, as Mason Mundie and Harry Rasmussen ensured any forward entries were short-lived for Golden Square.
With Keating returning to the field, seemingly with his own football for the final quarter, Rochester finally broke the game open and converted a number of set shots to develop an ultimately insurmountable lead.
Rasmussen was full of praise for his young Tiger brigade’s ability to run the game out, citing their fitness levels being a contributing factor in being able to continually move the ball with speed.
Rochy 13.14 (92) defeated Golden Square 10.6 (66)
Goal-kickers: Declan Carmichael, Judd Cuttriss (3), Zac Morgan, Charles Watson (2), Hugh Acocks, Asher Rasmussen, Preston Kath.

Under-16 boys
The under-16s finished off a perfect triple header at Windridge oval, claiming a huge win over Golden Square.
In the first match of the regular season, the boys got off to a flyer in the first quarter, booting six goals and conceding just the one.
Power forward Morgan Boyack proved to be a strong target, having a day out in front of the big sticks.
Blake Kyne’s efforts all year were rewarded with two goals of his own, while partners in crime Amon Riordan and Tom McFadzean played their best games for the year.
The mid-field group linked up like magic through the middle of the ground, captain Darby Martin and Sam Seabrook getting down to their usual business, while Cale James and Tom Drust used the ball well from the middle of the ground, James himself hitting the scoreboard.
While the defenders didn’t have too much to do in the first quarter, Golden Square put up a fight after quarter time, and Rochy’s back six responded accordingly.
Jackson Morgan controlled things behind the ball like always, while first gamer Brodie Murphy was critical in the back pocket, with many one per cent efforts contributing to a great first game.
The boys were able to get the ball back on their own terms late in the second, Ben Hewes using his silky skills to move the ball through the middle and fellow winger Michael Gibson leaving everyone in his dust with his lighting pace on the far side of the ground.
The third term saw again another tight contest, however the ever reliable backline of Kaelan Conner, Edan McDonald and Cal Giffin were able to halt the attack of the square players.
Cyril Thomas-Tuati in particular, fighting above his weight class, with some awesome individual efforts. While Darcey Pump’s ruck work had been magnificent, including a big mark in the goal square, his injury saw key forward Kade Pearse showing another layer of skill, applying his craft in the ruck.
When some started to tire, key ball carriers Mitch Munro and Jimmy Otto continued to run up and down the ground, and were significant in setting up multiple scoring opportunities in the second half.
No doubting it was Rochy’s best performance of the year-to-date, with contributors all over the ground. A comprehensive win, putting the icing on the cake for a great day for the Rochester Junior Football Club.
