Echuca United couldn’t pull a rabbit out of a hat twice against minor premier Congupna in Murray Football League, well beaten at home in the penultimate round.

The Eagles came into the game as the only side to have not tasted defeat against the leaders, holding The Road to an improbable draw 10.9 (69) all at Congupna on June 20.

This time, at Echuca South Recreation Reserve, United had no such luck, the clinical leader rolling to a 21.14 (140) to 5.2 (32) victory.

The Eagles were held scoreless in the first, while The Road kicked six majors and, after another six in the second, led 12.5 (77) to 1.1 (7).

After another difficult quarter in the third, Echuca United finished the game strong, matching Congupna three goals apiece over the last half hour.

Cooper Boyd was the Eagles’ best in front of goal, kicking three of their five majors, while Mitchell Boyd was United’s best.
