The Lions are very familiar with what O’Sullivan will bring to the table next season, as she has called Kings Park home all of her netball career.
That career has included highlights like captaining a pair of A-grade premierships and representing the GVL on a number of occasions, but also plenty of coaching experience with B-reserve and 17-and-under outfits.
Stepping up to a player-coach role is new territory for the star goal shooter though.
“I’m very excited,” O’Sullivan said.
“It will definitely be a new challenge to take on a playing-coach role. It’s not something I’ve done before, but I’ve had plenty of coaching experience.
“Hopefully we will have a similar squad return next year and we can get something close to a normal season in.”
O’Sullivan takes over the A-grade coaching role from Ronni Hager.
“I’ve been at Seymour my whole life and I’m looking forward to taking on this challenge,” O’Sullivan said.
“I think I’ll put my own spin on things as well as lean on those around me.
“There’s a few younger girls coming through to the senior squad and that’s really exciting.
“We’re all keen to get back out on court.”
When announcing O’Sullivan’s appointment, Seymour Football Netball Club was glowing in its praise of its new A-grade mentor.
“The SFNC is extremely excited to announce Ellie O’Sullivan as our 2022 A-grade netball coach,” the club posted to its social media page.
“Ellie is a two-time A-grade premiership captain, star goal shooter, GVL representative player, and has previously coached our under-17s and B-reserve teams.
“She’s been a crucial part of the development of our young netballers for the past seven years and is a dedicated and passionate contributor to our club on and off the court.
“Ellie has already shown great leadership in her time at the den. She’s got the fire in her belly to take our entire netball club along with her. We can’t wait to see what she will bring in this position.
“Please join us in congratulating and getting behind our home grown superstar, Ellie!”
