That’s the mission of his popular trainer, David Aiken, who last week started a new chapter in his life, shifting his training base from Avenel to Menangle in NSW.
Max Delight has joined him there with another nine or 10 horses.
Aiken and his wife, Colleen, are now living closer to their respective ageing parents, which was the main reason for the move.
But they will retain their Avenel property, where their son and former reinsman Josh will prepare a small team.
The Aikens originally hail from NSW and made the move from Bankstown in Sydney to Avenel to train 30 years ago.
Aiken will be first to admit it was tough going at the start, but his training skills and work ethic came to the fore, and he has become one of Victoria’s leading trainers in the past 20 years.
Inter Dominion winner Lennytheshark, Max Delight and Hectorjayjay have been among the best pacers he has trained, along with Ultra Jet, whom he brought with him when he first moved to Victoria.
Letsrockletsroll has also been a consistent money earner for him in recent years.
He has also enjoyed a lot of success with trotters, including My High Expectations, Big Jack Hammer, Spider Girl, Eljaykay Phoenix, Princess Phoenix and Aldebaran Crescent.
Aiken completed one of his goals with Max Delight last Saturday night with the pacer’s second placing to the champion Leap To Fame in the Cranbourne Cup taking his prize money earnings over $1 million.
That was a mission completed for Aiken, who had set him that milestone even when Max Delight went through an 18-month winless period and was written off by a lot of pundits.
But Aiken never lost faith in the pacer and now would like nothing better than to qualify him for Australia’s premier sprint for pacers, the Miracle Mile, at Menangle on March 9.
Max Delight will have to contest some lead-up qualifying races to the famous race to earn a place in what will be a hotly contested field.
