While the teams in the top half of the Heathcote District Netball League ladder continue to pick up wins, lower-ranking sides gave the leaders a run for their money in a couple of round 11 fixtures.
Lockington-Bamawm United vs Mount Pleasant
Looking for their first win of the season, the Cats travelled to Toolleen Recreation Reserve to battle the Mounts.
In one of its stronger matches of the season, LBU fell tantalisingly short of overcoming Mount Pleasant, losing 49-43.
While the loss would’ve stung, the Cats can be buoyed by the fact they came so close to toppling the third-ranked team.
Things won’t get any easier for LBU as it will face undefeated league-leader Colbinabbin in round 12.
Leitchville-Gunbower vs Huntly
In what was always bound to be a tough match-up for the Bombers, Huntly walked away with the chocolates despite L-G leading at half-time.
L-G led at both breaks in the first half, with the Hawks staying within striking distance and marginally cutting down the lead throughout.
The third term is where Huntly began to take flight, not only catching up to the Bombers but creating a five-goal lead at three-quarter time.
Despite its best efforts, L-G wasn’t able to catch the Hawks, who won 51-48.
Looking ahead, L-G will attempt to get over the top of Mount Pleasant in round 12.
Colbinabbin vs Heathcote
The Grasshoppers crushed the Saints in a continuation of their dominant season.
Heathcote never really looked a chance of stopping Colbo, who extended its unbeaten streak to nine to start the year.
The Hoppers almost doubled their opposition’s effort, winning comfortably 73-38.
Colbinabbin next faces LBU on the leader’s home court.
White Hills vs Elmore
Elmore has been competitive this season and gave the second-placed Demons a contest at White Hills Recreation Reserve.
The Bloods weren’t too far off the pace throughout, but the Demons did enough to slowly build a lead over the four quarters.
A seven goal half-time advantage was matched in the second half hour, the final score 45-31 in the Demons’ favour.
Elmore hosts Huntly in its next game.
