Travelling to Victoria Park to take on the Murray Bombers, the Lions were all class in the 60-49 victory, slowly but surely extending their lead throughout the contest to remain unbeaten since the interleague bye.
It looked as though the contest was poised to become a straight-up shootout early on as the two sides traded goals at a frenetic pace, the margin never extending beyond two goals in either direction before the whistle was blown at quarter time with the score tied at 15 apiece.
That trend continued to start the second, as Echuca’s Rose Byrne poured in the first eight of her side’s goals for the term to take the Murray Bombers level with Seymour at 23-all; however, the Lions began to assert themselves all over the court, with the shooting combination of Ally Black and Ellie Fuhrmeister converting the dominance on the scoreboard, as Seymour pulled away late to lead 29-25 at the half.
The third term was the decisive period for Seymour, as a slow start saw Echuca back within a goal; however, a stunning run saw the visitors blow the contest apart, scoring 13 of the next 14, including eight straight goals to Fuhrmeister, as the lead ballooned back out to 11 at the final change.
The 18-11 third term put Seymour in the box seat to close out the win, which the Lions did with ease in the final quarter, never letting the lead shrink below nine as they matched Echuca 11-11 to claim a solid victory.
Ruby Martin was named Seymour’s best in the win, reeling in a number of intercepts at goal keeper and making life hard for the Echuca shooters, while Ally Black and Courtney Aldous rounded out the most influential for their efforts at goal attack and goal defence, respectively.
The win ensured Seymour tightened its grip on third spot on the ladder with an 8-2-1 record, a game and a half clear of Mooroopna in fourth, while trailing unbeaten pair Euroa and Shepparton by the same margin.
The Lions are back at Kings Park on Saturday as they aim to improve their winning streak to five, hosting 11th-placed Kyabram.
