While travelling nicely in third spot heading into the clash, the Lions were considered the underdog against their highly fancied opponent, having gone down by 21 goals the last time they met in round four.
But they showed little regard for the Magpies’ billing as favourites, storming to a convincing 51-35 victory to remain undefeated since the interleague bye, and handing second-placed Euroa just its second loss of the season.
It was a hotly contested start to the contest in slippery conditions, with both sides finding patches of momentum throughout the first term; however, it was Seymour that took the lead into quarter time courtesy of a late flurry of goals, leading 10-9 at the first break.
While scores were levelled early in the second quarter, the Lions would twice go on unanswered runs of four goals as they began to find ascendency across the court, although Euroa did well to limit the damage, with Seymour managing a 22-17 lead by the main break.
But while the Magpies had been able to somewhat quell the Seymour attack throughout the second quarter, they had no answers to begin the third, as a 10-minute patch of utter dominance effectively put the game to bed.
A five-goal lead to start the second half became 15 within the blink of an eye, as the Lions scuppered any Euroa advance up the court, while draining shot after shot inside their own attacking third to pour in 10 consecutive goals in a decisive period.
While the Magpies managed to get back on level pegging for the rest of the quarter, going goal-for-goal to keep the margin at 15 by the final break, the damage had been done.
Euroa got no closer than 11 goals in the final term as Seymour comfortably closed out an emphatic victory, even extending the lead by a goal late to finish 16 ahead, sending a clear message that the Lions are going to be a serious threat come finals.
Ruby Martin and Sarah Szczykulski were again among the best for Seymour, locking down the dangerous Euroa goalers to great effect, with 35 far and away the lowest total the Magpies have managed this season, while Ally Black was also among the votes for her performance in attack.
The win ensure the Lions keep a firm grip on third spot on the ladder with an 12-2-1 record, while also heaping the pressure on Euroa ahead, with the Magpies now just half a game above in second spot.
The Lions will enjoy a week off due to a split round 16, next taking to the court at Deakin Reserve on August 9 against Shepparton United, where they will look to make it nine wins on the trot.
