It was a dominant showing from the first whistle on Saturday, with the Lions showing no mercy to the visiting Rochester, putting their highest score for the year on the board in the 80-38 victory at Kings Park.
The tone was set in the opening minutes after the two sides had traded a goal each, with Seymour going on a 9-0 run to establish a 10-1 lead, which became 18-7 by quarter-time, as Ellie Fuhrmeister and Ally Black capitalised on the brilliant midcourt pressure with accurate shooting inside the circle.
Seymour’s iron curtain of Lucy Zotti, Bridie Cantwell and Casey Adamson gave the Tigers no opportunity from the centre pass, turning the ball over at will as the deluge of goals continued, with the Lions scoring 14 of the first 17 to get the second term under way, stretching the lead beyond 20.
A 21-7 quarter saw Seymour safely into half-time with a 25-goal buffer, leading 39-14, but there would be no letting up after the break, as the home side poured in another 22 goals in the third term while restricting Rochester to just 10, pushing the margin out to 37 with a quarter to play.
The Tigers lifted their scoring in the last with their best quarter of the contest, scoring 14, although Seymour still managed to widen the gap with 19 of its own to clinch the 42-goal win, the second week in a row it has claimed victory by more than 40 goals.
Zotti’s work through the middle saw her named Seymour’s best in the crushing win, joined by Rosie O’Sullivan, who put together a solid game in wing attack, while Fuhrmeister was superb inside the attacking circle with 46 of her side’s 80 goals.
The win saw the Lions improve to 7-2-1 for the year with a percentage of 128.73, comfortably sitting third at the end of round 10 following two consecutive big wins.
However, they face an Echuca side that will no doubt be hungry for redemption in round 11, having dropped out of the top six following a loss at the weekend.
