Parkland women
A field of 39 women turned up for the Stableford event held on Tuesday, September 15, which was generously sponsored by “Workwear Connect” Allan Street, Kyabram.
Faye Glover (18), producing good consistent golf recently, again took top spot in A-grade with 36 stableford points, while new member Felicity Booth (15) closely followed with 35 points to be runner-up.
It seems that a few weeks away on holidays has paid dividends for Pam Spokes (25) who finished with the best score of the day to win B-grade with 43 pts.
Veronica Ryan (22) whom in the winners circle for the second successive week was named runner-up with 41 points.
Good scores continued into C-grade with Lyn Bailey (35) leading the way with 42 points while Jan Gentle (31) was successful with 41 points to be named as runner-up after a countback from Sonia Verlinden, who will now feature in the ball competition.
Ball recipients were Sonya Verlinden 41, Heather Sleeth 40, Jenny Cheong Backway 40, Sue Turnbull 39, Leesa Barnes 39, and Rosemary Britton 39.
Helen Pettifer won nearest-the-pin on the ninth, while Veronica Ryan claimed the jackpot with her second shot on the 18th and Rhonda Cox took home the Firstea voucher for nearest on the sixth.
Valley View
Gary Cleary’s return to golf at Valley View continues to gain steam with the multi time Club Champion claiming two wins in one week.
He began the week on Tuesday with 39 points as he took out A-grade and knocked a shot off his generous nine handicap in the process.
He followed that up on Saturday with a round of 76 off the stick and a par score of +4 as he posted a comfortable three shot win from Will Harrison, who finished the day one up.
Along the way, Gary also won the A-grade nearest-the-pin balls on the 3rd and 12th holes.
Gary did his best work on the back nine with four up on that side of the course.
Things were a bit tighter in B-grade with Frank Broucek securing a one-shot win with the score of +2 from Ian Brown with +1.
Gill Thorsen took out the ladies’ comp with +1 and had two shots to spare from runner-up Jenni Bauerle who finished her round with -1.
Ball comp winners were Peter Mangan with square, Kevin Bauerle (square), Paul Dickens (-1), Gordon Mackay (-1), David Collins (-1), Craig Larcombe (-2), Graeme Harrison (-2) and Sharon Harrison (-2).
Other ball winners were Peter Blackmore (B-grade NTP 3rd), Jenni Bauerle (NTP 12th) Ian Brown (second shot 9th) and Lawrie Casey (second shot 13 tH ).
The First Tea voucher on the 15 th was won by Alan Hausler who I can only speculate most likely skinnied his 3 wood along the ground up to the green as it fortuitously came to a halt some five feet from the pin edging out a classic tee shot already played to the green to claim the voucher.
Back to Tuesday and Peter Mangan was the A-grade runner up while Laurie Radley matched Gary Cleary’s 39 points as the best score of the day to claim the honours in B grade with John Canavan taking out the runner’s up trophy with 38 points from Mick Gallivan via a countback.
Ball comp winners were Mick Gallivan (38 points), Gavon Armstrong (37), Lawrie Casey (36), Kevin Bauerle (36) and Matt Jean (35).
Mick Gallivan won the B-grade nearest-the-pin ball on the 12 th, the only NTP ball claimed, while John Canavan (9 th ) and Shane Bywaters (13 th ) won the second shot balls.
Please keep in mind the main event this week is the 4BBB Stableford on Friday (assembly 11.30am) while with the AFL Grand Final, Saturday is a Book Event with the office closed so you will need to arrange your own groups and place your payment in an envelope and slide through the slot at the window. The results will be collated by the M&H team on Sunday

Valley View women
Valley View women celebrated President’s Day last Wednesday.
Our president, Wendy Cox, sponsored her day and also organised a delicious lunch for all to share.
Members thanked Wendy for her leadership and hard work for us during the year.
In A-grade, Leanne Busch was the winner with 36 points, followed by Wanda Hacon with 34 points.
The stand out scores for the day came in B-grade.
On her first day playing Wednesday golf, Lyn Cannavan showed she is well on the way to achieving her stated goal of lowering her handicap, with the excellent score of 39 points.
Just one shot back was Von Morris with 38 points.
Nearest-the-pins went to Wanda Hacon in A-grade, Von Morris in B-grade, and Tracey Wade who won the Firstea voucher on the third.
On Friday, Valley View welcomed 50 players for the GMGA Swaggers event which was played in beautiful sunshine.
Merrigum Golf
It was a warm spring day for Merrigum’s latest Privilege Cup round on Saturday.
This was a break from the normal end of month fixture due to the AFL grand final this coming Saturday.
Conditions have changed significantly in the space of a week on the course, with much more run than we have had for months, and this was reflected in the number of players who were able to play close to their handicaps.
Gary Eden didn’t play close to his handicap however, and made a mockery of his 28 handicap, winning B-grade with an outstanding round of 92-28-64.
With the best score of the day, he picked up the roast, along with the other incidentals that go with winning the Privilege Cup, some of which have sensibly gone by the way over the years.
Gazbo has been in as good form as anyone at the club over the winter, but now that the warmer weather is here, he will find he has three shots less to play with next time he plays his home course, and because his good form is recent, his handicap won’t be going out any time soon.
Andrew Wood would have been pleased with his round too and perhaps might have thought a roast was in the offing after a round of 78-12-66 that won him A-grade, however Gary’s special round meant Woody had to settle for the lesser offerings of being a grade winner. He too lost a shot from his handicap.
Ball winners were Bruce Brown with 68, this week with a full set of clubs, Geoff Kirk 70, and Mick Poulton with 72.
Nearest-the-pins were won by Alan Fabris on the sixth, Geoff Kirk on the ninth, Andy Baxter on the 12th, and Simon Doherty on the 14th.
Poor old “Aussie Mick” had three of the NTP’s within his grasp but was beaten on all of them.
Bruce Brown won the chook shed challenge with 11 points on the four holes.
This Saturday’s event is a two-person ambrose, with an early hit-off between 9-9.30am to allow players to get home for the grand final.
Kyabram Pigeon Club
Kyabram Racing Pigeon Club continues to test its bird’s range, heading out north to just south of Wilcannia for its latest race on Saturday.
For some trainers, the location meant an almost 500km journey for their pigeons back to their home loft.
As always, the competition was judged by the birds’ average velocity on the return journey, measured as distance over time.
The trainer at the furthest distance, Kyabram East’s Gary Beavis, took out the race, his birds ticking just over the 500km mark to reach home and travelling at 1327.19 metres per minute.
Fellow Kyabramite Shannon Goode finished narrowly in second (1326.74) while Echuca East’s Troy Schwenke (1323.25) rounded out the top three.
Concurrently, the club also ran a breeder’s plate from the same location, with trainers entitled to multiple entries each.
In this event, Ky’s Peter White scored the winning time, his birds logging 1305.50, followed by Gary Beavis (1301.18) and Moama’s M and P Racing (1251.93).
