The damaging midfielder cooked up a storm across the month of August as Seymour held firm inside the top six, but Cook’s courageous campaign would come to a close in a loss by less than a kick.
Cook averaged video game numbers across the last month of winter, including a 212 ranking points effort against Tatura in the final round of the home and away season, and was again the highest ranked player on the ground at Tatura Park in the elimination final, leading to his selection as Shepp News’ Player of the Month for August.
It was no ordinary month for the Lions star either, and he can take great confidence into the summer about what can be built for season 2027.
Compared to his season average, Cook’s disposals increased by 5.4 per game with an improved efficiency by 10.5 per cent, tackles per game increased by 2.6, and he was more prone to hitting the scoreboard in attack, averaging a goal a game in August compared to 0.4 for the season.

That’s not to say Cook’s season overall was mediocre generally, rather ascending to another stratosphere of stardom.
Across all GVL players, Cook ranked second for inside 50s and clearances, third for tackles and contested possessions, and fourth for disposals and ranking points.
So while Seymour are no longer in the premiership hunt, season 2026 was still a roaring success for the Lions’ midfield chef - and it’s not only the News that noticed.
Cook - who was announced as having re-signed at the Lions for 2027 this week - was also recently named on the shortlist for the Goulburn Valley League’s Morrison Medal, the senior football competition’s best and fairest.
The star midfielder is one of 10 players in the running to receive the accolade on Monday, September 14 when the league hosts its night of nights at Tatura’s Ballantyne Centre.
