Buoyed from a big scalp the previous week Cooma bowled Echuca out for 144 but collapsed to be 9/72 on the opening day of Goulburn Murray Cricket’s first two-day round on Saturday.

With Sam Langley taking 5/41 off 14 overs and Brad Power 3/14 off five overs Cooma looked to have the upper hand.

But Echuca hit back with the ball, with only two Cooma batters — young opener Liam Scopelliti with 21 and Cooper Fawcett 11 not out — making it to double figures as Echuca’s star allrounder, Tyler Beard, capped a big day by taking 5/29 off 11 overs after top-scoring in Echuca’s innings with 63.

Rochester has set LGU a decent run chase this Saturday by compiling 9/291 off its 80 overs in their clash at Windridge Oval, Rochester.

Skipper Sean Williams was among the runs again for Rochester with 84 off 144 deliveries while star allrounder Dylan Cuttriss chipped in with 75 off 108 deliveries.

James Keath’s marathon 29-over stint produced 5/75 for LGU.

The Moama-Nondies Cohuna clash was evenly poised after the first day’s play at Moama.

Jack Russell, with 42, top-scored as Moama posted 197 off 65 overs.

In reply, Nondies was 1/61.

Echuca South’s batters struggled to 115 off 76.4 overs in its clash with BLU, which is in the box seat to win next Saturday.
