Glanvill had a tough battle in the semi final against Strathmerton’s Wayne McGregor, coming from behind to win 25-22.
But he was at his best in the final defeating a valiant Andrew Hill from Finley, 25-7.
This is Glanvill’s second Champion of Champions title, having won previously in 2021/22.
He now goes on to play the Goulburn Valley Champion of Champions for a spot in the final 16 at the state championships in Bendigo.
Matt Hansen’s giant-killing run came to an end in the Murray Bowls men’s State Singles event.
He was outclassed by Mark Jones in the final 25-12.
Hansen was unable to recapture the form that saw him come from 8-18 down to defeat Luke Spargo of Numurkah Golf 25-22.
Hansen has a chance to redeem himself this Sunday when he pairs with Rick Bradbury in the Murray Bowls Champion of Champions Men’s Pairs.
Elaine Hawkins and Glenys McKay will represent the Curlews in the ladies Champion of Champion Pairs.
Kelly Milich and Vidura ‘Panda’ Gunaratne face off on Thursday evening in the final of the Bernard Curtin B-grade open singles championship.
Gunaratne made the final of this event last season and will be looking to go one step further.
Milich will be keen to win a title after her loss in the ladies singles final in January.
The Curlews finished the pennant season off on a high note, defeating Numurkah at home in both Divisions 1 and 3.
The Division 1 match went down to the wire with the Curlews finishing on top by the narrowest of margins 54-53 (13-3).
Rick Bradbury’s rink of Paul Glanvill, Matt Hansen and Jason Milich brought the team home with a 20-13 win, Graeme Clements fought hard for a 17-17 draw and Rob Lillis crucially narrowed the gap late in the match despite losing 17-23.
Despite the win, the Curlews finished bottom of the Division 1 ladder and will now watch Division 2 with interest to see if they will retain their position.
Division 3 had a comfortable 61-41 (16-0) win with Stave Gann’s rink of Barry Hutchinson, Jack Buckman and Geoff Blake the standouts with a 23-13 win.
Glenys McKay won 23-14 and Alex Dalgliesh did well to win 15-14.
While the results don’t necessarily reflect the situation, there has been significant improvement this season from a number of bowlers and the future looks bright.
The first round of the Berrigan Barefoot Bowls was played on Wednesday with an excellent turnout.
The results were:
Beers d Dregs 4-3 2-3 (1-0 playoff end)
The Subs d The Cafe 10-3, 6-1
Erica’s Eagles d Parrie’s Pirates 6-1, 2-5
Three Gees d Savernake Stars (sub) 4-3, 4-0
There is still room for more teams, with all welcome to stay for a sausage sizzle after.
