Deniliquin footballers Charlie Bull and Baxter Cowley have been selected for the GWS Academy Nationals under-16 team squad playing in the 2024 Marsh AFL National Development Championships.
The championships feature many of the best under-16 footballers in Australia, with matches to be played across Australia.
The boys play their first game against the Sydney Swans Academy this Saturday, at Canberra’s Manuka Oval.
All matches in the final two rounds will be held on the Gold Coast from July 8 to 12, during the school holidays.
The 2024 Marsh AFL National Development Championships features 10 teams competing across two pools.
Pool A features four teams, including South Australia, Victoria Country, Victoria Metro and Western Australia.
Pool B features six teams, including the Brisbane Lions Academy, Gold Coast Suns Academy, GWS Giants Academy, Northern Territory, Sydney Swans Academy and Tasmania.
The two thirds players - Charlie from the Deni Rams and Baxter from the Deni Rovers - will get to compete on the national stage and are set to be coached by former Sydney Swans premiership player Tadhg Kennelly.
Kennelly played 197 games in the AFL.
