The team bus is firing on all cylinders again and the energy transferred to the players as the Emus got the ascendancy early against another undermanned Suns side.
The Emus managed to pile on nine goals in the first quarter, largely driven from the midfield, with Justin Voss, Mark Battiscombe, Brad Colliver, Troy Arlow, Rob O’Connor and Gary Davis proving a powerful force.
In the spirit of masters footy, there were some team adjustments at quarter time resulting in a closer contest thereafter.
Paul Lavars, Sandy Lawrence, Craig Danswan, Kelvin Nye and Duane Kelly battled manfully for the Suns, doing a great job holding the Emus to account and taking some of the pace out of the game.
Mark Van Poeteran continued his fine form for the year, running riot in the forward line.
Only the width of the goalposts could stop him from kicking more majors, finishing the day with five goals and three behinds as well as a couple of kicks into the adjacent paddocks.
Jon Beach, Lucas Walker and Damien Hammond were also among the goals.
At the final siren, the Emus were comfortable victors and happy to get a win on the road — the strong numbers at training and a fit list gave them good depth to tackle the remainder of the season.
The next game will be home against Sunbury Lions at Victoria Park on June 17 from 2pm.
