Seymour 6-86 (L. Drummond 57no) d Puckapunyal 6-85 (B. Horkings 2-12, B. Pointon 2-11)
Seymour got its season under way at home with a solid win over Puckapunyal. The home side was able to restrict Puckapunyal to just 85 from its 20 overs at Chittick Park, largely thanks to economical bowling and two wickets each from Braidon Horkings and Brodey Pointon.
The run chase was far from straightforward as Ciaron Fountain picked up early wickets, leaving Seymour in trouble at 4-30 before Lachlan Drummond stood up.
Opening the batting, Drummond finished unbeaten on 57, including eight fours and a six to virtually chase down Puckapunyal’s total single-handed.
Seymour will now face Tallarook in the second round of T20 matches next weekend.
Alexandra 7-75 (M. Mawson 23, V. Hewage 20) lost to Pyalong 7-79 (W. Ashton 3-18)
Pyalong managed to sneak over the line in the final over of its clash with Alexandra at Leckie Park.
The Redbacks batted first and were only able to put 75 on the board, largely thanks to handy contributions from Will Ashton, Vinu Hewage and Michael Mawson. Matthew Pratt and James Wilkins both picked up two wickets for Pyalong.
Pyalong got the job done with just two balls remaining, with Alexandra skipper Will Ashton picking up 3-18 to cause difficulties in the chase.
Avenel 75 (T. Stefanos 22, D. Thompson 2-14, Z. Mills 2-14) lost to Yea Tigers 4-78 (B. Hardinge 50no, T. Stefanos 2-7)
Avenel batted first in its return to A-grade cricket with newly appointed captain-coach Travis Stefanos leading all comers with 22 runs, although the innings was curtailed by Yea’s Dylan Thompson and Zak Mills, who claimed two wickets apiece.
Yea chased down Avenel’s total with ease, thanks to captain Biron Hardinge, who was the only Tiger to get to double fixtures, finishing on 50 not out off 46 balls to guide his side home. Stefanos was the pick of the bowlers for Avenel with 2-7.
