In less than one week, the region’s brightest up-and-coming youngsters will battle it out for bragging rights at the Northern Rivers Junior Country Week carnival.

Cricket Shepparton has named its challengers in recent weeks, with the full squads locked in for the week-long competition.

Grounds across the Goulburn and Murray Valley region will be used and the first runs will be scored when matches start on Monday, January 3.

Cricket Shepparton will field seven sides and association president David D’Elia congratulated all players selected.

“Well done to the players selected and we wish all the teams and juniors the best of luck,” D’Elia said.

“It’s always a fantastic week of cricket and hopefully the weather stays nice. I know everyone is keen as mustard to play.”

Cricket Shepparton will be hopeful to replicate its performance at last year’s carnival.

Three outfits walked away with silverware while a further three sides finished runner-up.

“We have been strong in the past. Hopefully that can continue and we can bring back a few cups by the end of the week,” D’Elia said.

James Woods is set to coach the under-17 boys, Grant Hutchins will steer the girls’ under-17 contingent, while Steve Reeves and Chris Earl are locked in to coach the under-16 and under-15 boys’ sides respectively.
