Lockington-Bamawm United has found a nice patch of form despite spending the majority of the season winless, its latest scalp being arch-rival Leitchville-Gunbower in round 15 of Heathcote District Netball League.
Hosting the Bombers at Lockington Recreation Reserve, it was a tight match between the contemporaries all the way through.
It was slow going for both sides in the opening quarter, with LBU outscoring the visitors eight goals to five by the first break.
Attack began to open up for both sides in the second period, with the Cats piling on 13 goals and the Bombers adding seven by half-time.
LBU stumbled out of the gate after the major break, adding five goals to the tally, while L-G caught up in a major way, putting 12 through the net to bring the difference to four with the final quarter to play.
However, the Cats managed to rally down the stretch, getting back to double figures in attack (10) and minimising the Bombers’ efforts to five to walk away with a nine-goal victory in the grudge match.
The final score was 36-27.
While neither side will be playing finals, it was a moral victory for LBU, which was put to the sword in its last encounter with L-G in round six.
L-G will have the bye in round 16, while the Cats will head to Elmore Recreation Reserve for a date with the Bloods, who are poised to play finals.
Colbinabbin v North Bendigo
The Grasshoppers continued to flex their muscles and remain unbeaten at the top of the tree after vanquishing North Bendigo.
In what was almost entirely a one-sided affair, Colbo put the Bulldogs to the sword by 48 goals.
The final score was 71-23.
The Grasshoppers will be in for some strong competition when they will be part of a top-of-the-table clash with White Hills in round 16.
Mount Pleasant v White Hills
Speaking of the Demons, they got over the top of contemporary Mount Pleasant in round 15.
In a close encounter, White Hills managed to get away with an eight-goal victory in enemy territory at Toolleen Recreation Reserve.
The final score was 52-44.
The Mounts currently sit in third position and will face Huntly at Strauch Reserve Court One in round 16.
Elmore v Heathcote
Elmore kept its finals hopes alive in round 15, notching a convincing victory over Heathcote at Barrack Reserve Court One.
After toiling, the Bloods got away to a 23-goal victory to keep themselves in the finals fray.
The final score was 52-29.
Elmore will look to consolidate the win in round 16 against LBU.
