Cats end season on a high with one last victory over Demons

Travelling to White Hills Recreation Reserve for its last dance, LBU was in a tightly-locked first term with the Demons, notching three goals apiece, with a behind separating them.

White Hills took the initiative in the second period, outscoring the visitor 2.1 to 1.4 to carry a two-point lead at the major break.

The Cats (4.2) switched on after half-time with the Demons (3.3) still in the mix, but gave up their lead to LBU which held a three-point advantage with the final quarter of the season for both teams looming.

With nothing to lose, the Cats played with freedom down the stretch, kicking away with 8.7 in the quarter to romp past White Hills and secure a 16.17 (113) to 10.8 (68) swansong victory.

Matthew Butler once again delivered in front of goal, while Stuart Taylor’s work in the midfield earned him best-on-ground honours, with Bowden Stone, Jack O’Callaghan, Matt Hore and Tyler Phillips joining the pair on that list.

While LBU will be disappointed to fall one win shy of a finals berth, the side has been steadily improving in the past couple of seasons, with eyes on the top prize in 2026.
