The Suns claimed the Victorian Premier League 2 title and promotion to VPL1 in what was a memorable season for the McEwen Reserve natives, but even after the final whistle, the GV’s round-ball specialists are still tallying up the trophies.
The Football Victoria awards held at Crown Palladium ended with top awards for Suns’ midfielder Callum Schorah and Craig Carley, bookending a magical campaign for the GV stalwarts.
Schorah took out the VPL2 best-and-fairest for a second time after an exemplary season, offering plenty around the pitch and contributing on the scoreboard with six goals from his 26 appearances.
The Suns talisman first claimed the award in 2024 alongside that season’s golden boot, becoming the first player from the club to win the league award and now setting the bar higher as its first ever two-time recipient.

Meanwhile, Carley’s masterful season from the sideline eventually saw him become the Suns first title-winning coach.
And in Melbourne, he was recognised accordingly.
Carley was named the VPL2 Coach of the Year, and his services will still be on hand heading into the Orangemen’s return to VPL1.
The Suns mastermind has put pen to paper for the 2027 campaign, with the club saying it was thrilled to have Carley back on board.
“What Craig has helped build over the past few seasons goes well beyond results,” the Suns said in a statement.
“His commitment to developing players, belief in local talent and genuine investment in this club and our region have been a huge part of the progress we’ve made.
“There’s plenty to be proud of, but there’s also plenty still to do.
“With a new challenge waiting in VPL1, we’re incredibly pleased to have Craig leading the group into 2027.”
