Entering the contest at Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre to take on the Wolves with a 1-1 record, the Blasters were looking for a return to the sort of form that saw them claim a dominant 50-point victory in round one before last week suffering their first loss of the campaign.
But it wasn’t to be, as Wodonga dominated from the tip-off to win every quarter, extending the margin considerably in the second half to hand Seymour a devastating 51-94 loss.
From the jump the Blasters found themselves on the back foot, with the Wolves managing to open up a 10-point lead halfway through the first term. Although Seymour settled and managed to keep pace nearing quarter-time, the Wolves still enjoyed a 26-14 lead by the first break.
A Wodonga burst to open the second term saw Seymour’s deficit near 20 points, with the Wolves at times extending the lead beyond that. However, Seymour rallied late to rein the margin in slightly, with a Chloe Dimkopolous two-pointer the last score of the half to ensure Seymour trailed 28-45 at the main break.
From there, however, it was one-way traffic, as Wodonga put the foot down in the second half.
Seymour was unable to match the home side after the break, as Wodonga outscored the Blasters 24-12 in the third term to open up a 29-point lead by the final change.
While Seymour desperately tried to keep the margin respectable, the Wolves fired off a 25-11 final term to run away with a convincing victory, the final advantage being 43 points.
Dimkopolous and Isla Whitford were the top scorers for Seymour on a night where points were hard to come by, scoring 16 and 10 points, respectively, while the Blasters seemingly had no answer for Wodonga’s Molly Moylan, who dropped 40 points.
The Blasters will look to make amends this weekend when they face the Wolves once more, this time at Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre on Saturday evening, before heading to Wallan on Sunday for a noon fixture against the Panthers.
