Last Saturday saw Tungamah make the long journey to Mathoura to take on the Timbercutters.
Their struggles with player numbers have been well documented, losing some big numbers in the off season has made it difficult for them to compete. To their credit the team they put on the park on Saturday kept trying all day and played the game in great spirits throughout regardless of the score.
The Bears’ boys worked hard all day and moved the ball impressively giving the forward line plenty of opportunity to score.
They were able to do this efficiently and spread the load with 15 individual goal kickers. It was fantastic to see the 4 Irvine brothers finally in the seniors together at the one time.
They all managed to kick at least one goal each with Jim kicking his in the last minute of the game, Rob and Felicity would be very proud parents.
The coach led from the front racking up countless possessions and finishing with 6 majors from the midfield, just about the complete game.
Lachy Phillips had a day out in front of goal, he followed his 12 goals in the Under 17s earlier in the day with 11 in the main game. His strong leads and sure hands were a highlight, and he is certainly a player to watch going forward.
Nick Irvine and Sam Ferguson were dominant in the midfield and continued to work hard all day.
Dylan Scott is in fine form and had another solid performance off half back even sneaking down to get a major, as did the skipper Angus Ford who kicked his first goal in 6 years.
Liam Connell rounded out the best players with a dominant performance in the ruck, he was also able to link up well around the ground and set up many scoring opportunities.
In general, it was a consistent performance across the board with no passengers and will be a good lead into next week’s game against Strathmerton at Tungamah.
This will be a top 3 clash and a great challenge for the group to see where they are at as the league head towards the pointy end of the season.

Mathoura 1.1.7 defeated by Tungamah 30.19.199.
The Bears were ready to go from the first bounce and put 11 goals on the board in the first quarter. The ball moved quickly around the ground with some great skills on display with all players keen to get a touch and be involved.
Mathoura needed a few extra players to top up their numbers which the Bears were happy to help out with and gave everyone plenty of game time.
Jaxon Raven and Jackson Baker had the ball on a string and seemed to be everywhere. Judd Goldman kicked his first goal for the year and ended up with 3.
Jaydo, Liam, Geoff, Harvey, Loch, Alec, Axle, Ollie, and Beau were all solid contributors and directed the ball to where it needed to go.
Goals: Loch Phillips 12, Liam Williams 4, Judd Goldman 3, Jayden Arnold 3, Jaxon Raven 3, Harvey Thomson 2, Ollie Connell 1, Jack Costigan 1, Damon Thomas 1.

Mathoura 0.0 .0 defeated by Tungamah 17.13.115.
Starting late, the Tungamah kids got a chance to be the opener before the seniors. Playing as a team, the ball was shared around, and this worked well from the defenders through to the forwards.
Billy Doyle had a cracker of a game with great vision searching for the forwards. Eyes on the ball, looking for options, and not flooding the forward line saw the second half of the game flow more smoothly. Thank you to all players who played for Mathoura. Thank you to Mathoura for hosting. Well done to everyone.
