The Rutherglen Cats senior side were simply overpowered by the bigger bodies of Barnawartha on Saturday.
Despite their best efforts where they were within four goals at half time they could not match their opponents physically and came off second best at the end of the day.
Plenty of lessons to be learnt and to build upon for the remainder of the season.
Next week the Cats take on Beechworth at home.
Award Winners: Poachers Paradise Hotel – Thomas Kilpatrick, Complete Body Craft – Jarryd Hatton, Club Corowa – James Tanner, Rutherglen Pizza – Tory Oats, Boorhaman Hotel – Ben Pleming.

This week we saw players come back to boost depleted numbers and help the boys get over the line against tough opponents Barnawartha, who fought to the very end in a tight tussle.
Unexpected light drizzle made for slippery conditions in the first quarter.
After a hard fought, closely contested quarter Rutherglen pulled away in the second quarter with four goals to one.
Barnawartha fought back in the third quarter kicking three goals to none.
The last quarter saw Barnawartha take the lead but a late rally including goals from Rory Beattie and Mitch Francis saw the boys get over the line by four points in the last minutes, making for a very exciting climax to a thrilling game.
Rory Beattie, Mitch Francis and Declan Thompson scored two goals with Lucas Taft and Harry Chandler contributing one each.
Award Winners: Rutherglen Pizza – Mitch Francis, Silver Key Café – Bailee Morton, Corowa Sportspower – Fred Jackson, Schnitz Albury – Jayden Arnold, Coaches Award – Aidan Berriman.

Cats 14-17-101 def Barnawartha 0-0-0
The young Cats faced some cooler weather conditions on Saturday at Barnawartha, but that didn’t stop a red-hot performance from our Under 14s.
It was a true team effort with Coach Ben taking advantage of swapping the side around against smaller opposition and players showed great versatility to adapt.
Elijah McFarlane had a day out scoring three goals with Arthur Morris and Callum Potter both scoring two goals each. Erik Fuge showed some good form converting after taking a mark in front of goals. Max Chandler eventually found the big sticks after spraying his first few shots early.
It was great to welcome back Lucas Zani with a goal, and Kane McSweeney’s form went from strength to strength as he moved through different positions on the ground.
At the final siren Rutherglen had cracked the ton and held Barnawartha scoreless. At the end of the game the opposition umpire congratulated Rutherglen on their sportsmanship.
There should be a big pat on the back for the coach and the whole team’s efforts. Next week come on down to Barkly Park and support the boys as they face Beechworth at home.
Award Winners: Rutherglen Pizza – Eli McFarlane, Silver Key Café – Kane McSweeney
Corowa Cougars – Eric Fuge, Secret Cat – Max Chandler, Boschetti Electrical – Callum Potter.

Award Winners: Best On Court – Bridget McAnanly, Poachers Paradise Hotel – Ally Halton.
The team’s best effort this season, with combinations and combined pressure really coming together this week. Taking feedback at breaks and putting it into practice straight away made all the difference, with the girls coming off with smiles on their faces, the contest feeling much closer than the scoreline. Patience, pressure, and persistence were present for a great four-quarter effort this week.

Another tough round for the girls, first quarter full of nerves and took a while to settle in the ring before coming into the second quarter started to find their groove. Girls had a great game otherwise and are starting to work together much better each week.

It was a fantastic win under tough conditions. Georgia and Rach were an absolute powerhouse in defence. Well supported by Soph. Jackie ran hard all game in the centre and did some great feeds into the goal circle.
Well played Cats.

A great game in defence with lots of turnovers and rebounds from our two players Violet and Charlotte. In the mid-court each player did their role to bring the ball down to our goals.
A great feeding into the ring from Lucy and Georgie to our goalers Kara and Faith who stepped up from the Under 15s. The 17s team is starting to form really well together as a team both on and off the court. Keep your heads up and keep positive throughout the entire game and off the court. Well done Cats.

The girls knew they had a tough opposition in Barny and they really stepped up to the plate. The score doesn’t reflect the effort of the Cats players who all put in 110%. Best game they have played as a team. Our shooters worked beautifully together with Faith and Lucy and our defence again was super. Great work Cats!

Cats came up against tough opposition in Barny. The game was played in good spirits though we found it hard to find space with Barny players putting pressure on our passes. When we held our leads and put the ball out in front it worked well. Thanks to Krissy Scown for stepping up to umpire, we couldn’t have played the game without you and greatly appreciate the support from all umpires on game day. Keep working hard Cats, small steps forward each week!
