The A-grade event was raced at a frantic pace with an average speed of 41km/h as Peter Cooper was the aggressor throughout, ensuring no-one could go clear.
With several attacks unsuccessful, the race came down on the uphill sprint on Manse Hill, where Dan Johnson had the best legs to claim the title of club champion ahead of Joel Green, second and Michael Thomson third.
Dan raced with SBCC as a junior where he rode from scratch and showed great talent.
He returned to racing just three months ago and has gone from a middle mark to club champ. Well done Dan. The B-grade race was run in similar fashion, albeit at a slower average of 34km/h.
Bret Bender and Ian Baker set a fast pace early, splitting the field before Mangalore.
As the race rolled on the pace fluctuated, as riders tried to ride clear only to be reeled in by a watchful Finbar O'Sullivan.
Again it would come down to a sprint finish where O'Sullivan relished on the uphill finish, where he held off Ian Baker and Ian Porter for second and third respectively.
Congratulations to both Dan and Finbar on great rides. Racing next week will see the running of the 2019 Winter ITT Champs starting from Burgess Signs.
