The competition was a successful one for the Sharks, with many swimmers competing for the first time, resulting in 38 personal bests out of 41 swims and multiple placings and medals.
Our bronze squad mostly competed for the first time and all did very well, with several swimmers placing and all recording personal best times.
To say I am proud of everyone’s swimming is an understatement. Not only did everyone try their hardest, but they were so polite and lovely to be with all day.
Some big milestones were Lily, Levi, Asha and Isabel all diving in and doing a great job in every single race they swam, most importantly getting out with huge smiles on their faces and even managing some places.
Ollie had a 21-second pb in his 100m freestyle and 11 seconds in his 100m breaststroke and came home with a multitude of medals.
Marcus swam amazingly, medaling and even managing a nine-second pb in his 50m butterfly. Jarred flew home to take 12 seconds off his 100m freestyle and Zac also nailed his 100m freestyle with a seven-second pb.
Not to be outdone by her sister, Regan did a huge three-second pb in her 100m backstroke. Jabe swam so well, absolutely smashing his heat in his 50m freestyle, clocking a very quick 37.94.
Lachlan swam against kids two or more years his senior and still managed pbs and more than kept up with them.
Grace braved the blocks and did exceptionally well in all her events, especially her 50m freestyle, in which she smashed her heat to take the win.
There were many more great swims with some swimmers qualifying for the country championships held in Warrnambool at the end of January.
We had such outstanding achievements by each swimmer. Thank you to the parents for helping organise and of course for time keeping, you guys are legends.
The Seymour sharks have been lucky to welcome Kylie Hunter as their new coach for the 2019-20 season.
Kylie swam for New Zealand as a junior and qualified for her first Olympic trials at the age of 13. She has also coached for many years, including stints as head coach at the Alexandra Swimming Club and the Euroa Swimming Club and assistant coach at MLC aquatic under recent junior Australian coach Nick Veliades.
We are excited about where the club is going and we are looking for new swimmers, previous Shark swimmers and of course sponsors.
The Seymour Sharks are a great family club with some amazing swimmers and an experienced new coach.
If you would like to come on board as a much-needed sponsor, swimmer or introduce your child into the club, phone us on 0425 290 574 or email seymoursharkssecretary@gmail.com
