Hilldene martial artist Josh Kennedy added to his trophy cabinet and was crowned national champion at the Australian Taekwondo National Championships.
Kennedy, 11, won gold in poomsae (taegeuk) and bronze in sparring at the competition on the Gold Coast.
After a 21-hour drive to the venue, Kennedy said he felt the pressure of competition, but his coach provided great advice that helped him settle.
“There were a lot of strong competitors from around the country and one who had beaten me previously,” he said.
“I was nervous because it was a big competition, but I was really pleased to come away with some medals.”
The Tallarook Primary School student has been involved in taekwondo for four years after originally learning karate in Sydney.
