If you experienced a shudder down your spine, chances are your spring cleaning hasn’t yet reached the backyard.
That’s where we come in.
Turn to our outdoor spring cleaning hacks below to ensure your only worry this season is remembering to smear on the SPF.
It ain’t that deep, your pool just needs a little maintenance
Stubborn calcium stains or grime clinging to your waterline tiles? Start by removing leaves and dirt by hand or with a pool vacuum.
Next, tackle the tiles with a stiff brush or even a toothbrush for gentler surfaces.
Homemade heroes like vinegar or baking soda can help with minor marks, but tougher stains may need a pumice stone – or even commercial cleaners.
Still not shining? Call in the pros for soda blasting, especially for delicate glass tiles. And don’t forget prevention: a pool cover or skimming robot can save you hours later.
Timbeeeeeer decks
Decks endure a lot – weather, foot traffic, and the occasional wine spill. Clean them twice a year, ideally in spring and autumn.
Choose a dry day, clear off furniture, sweep thoroughly (don’t forget between the boards), then wet the timber before applying a cleaning solution.
Scrub along the grain, rinse well, and check for missed spots. Once dry, revive the timber with a coat of deck oil. It not only nourishes the wood, but also keeps your deck looking fresh all season.
The great outdoor furniture
From sun loungers to bean bags, each piece deserves a little TLC – and its own care routine.
- Timber: Scrub, clean and seal yearly.
- Outdoor fabric: Hose down, soap up rinse, and sun-dry.
- Umbrellas: Fight mould with vinegar and elbow grease.
- Bean bags: Wash removable covers (and sniff for signs of mould).
- Synthetic wicker: Gentle soapy rinse, but beware of painted finishes.
- Metal & aluminium: Clean bird mess promptly and refresh with paint if needed.
- Perspex: Use only mild detergent – no ammonia, no scratches.
