I moved to the Goulburn Valley in 2019. There were a few horsey people that I knew, and we got together and tried to start an equine activities group in Tatura.
Sadly, we had an issue because we didn’t have insurance, therefore we could not run events and by not running events, we had no money to pay for insurance, which is a necessity to run any event.
In late 2024 we were approached by Sue Terry, who wanted to retire from running the Tatura Dressage Club, to see if we would like to take it over.
We decided it was a great opportunity, as that club already had affiliation and insurance was available.
Last year was our first year of running the club.
In 2025, were saddened to learn that the horse section of Shepparton Agricultural Society was not going to run. At that stage, we were still finding our feet and could not take it on.
Our little committee have banded together and worked very hard to get the horse section running back again at Tatura Equestrian Centre this year on Saturday, October 10. We have had enormous help and support from the Shepparton Agriculture Society and generous sponsorship from many businesses and individuals throughout the shire and beyond. All this has helped to make this possible.
We have altered the program to include two open saddle rings, which are qualifiers for royal shows, and an extensive breed ring. We also have Off the Track classes, for those wishing to qualify for the Vic Ag finals next January. We decided by having three rings it gives us room to have a warm-up ring, which is needed by competitors with saddle horses.
For competitors keen enough, we will be running our final dressage competition for 2026 the following day. It promises to be a great weekend.
