This year’s Police Remembrance Day will no doubt hold a special significance for local police and those throughout Victoria, with the death of two officers at Porepunkah only a month ago.
Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson and Senior Constable Vadim De Waart-Hottart were shot dead on August 26 while on duty.
“This year, it’s very, very raw in the hearts and minds of police and the community from what’s occurred at Porepunkah,” Shepparton police Acting Inspector Brad Fisher said.
“It’s never pleasant to lose a member, but this has hit members not only here, but far and wide.”
The Shepparton ceremony for Police Remembrance Day will be held at 10.30am on Monday, September 29 at Monash Park, on the corner of Fryers and Welsford Sts.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
Act Insp Fisher said the day was a chance to remember all police members who had died in the line of duty.
“It’s an opportunity to pay our respects,” he said.
