Freya Grant will host the morning tea at Cafe 96 on Thursday, May 19, from 10am to 11am, and Seymour district residents are invited to support the nationwide event which raises fund for the Cancer Council.
“Our own family and a lot of our customers have been affected by cancer, either themselves or someone they know,” Ms Grant said.
“So that's why we think it's a pretty good cause, and also it's a good excuse to come and have coffee and cake and catch up with your friends.”
The team at Cafe 96 will be baking up a storm to ensure there is plenty of cake to go around for everyone. There will be a few other ways to support Cafe 96’s efforts.
“We’re also having a raffle on the day, in which we will put prizes from some of the other shops up the street,” Ms Grant said.
She was looking forward to “seeing everyone get together”.
“It just really warms me when I hear them all in here,” she said.
“Raising money is an important part of it but it's also very much about just bringing the community together.”
Last year’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea raised $10.8 million for the Cancer Council nationally and Ms Grant hopes Seymour will be able to make a strong contribution to this year’s total.
Coffee and cake will cost $10, with $2 from every purchase going to the Cancer Council.
No pre-registration is required for the event. Proceeds will be used to “fund research, prevention and support services for those affected by cancer”.
