Three Yarrawonga College P-12 students have achieved outstanding results in the Australian Schools Sharemarket Game, with two Year seven students each pocketing $750 in prize money.
Hudson Crawford and Paige Varndell showcased their investment prowess by growing their virtual $50,000 portfolios by about $18,000 over the 10-week competition period.
Their performance stood out among nearly 20,000 students participating across the country.
“The success of these students has been made possible thanks to the long-standing support of local business Hargraves, a proud sponsor of the Sharemarket Game at Yarrawonga College P-12,” a school representative said.
The students' success was largely attributed to their strategic early investment in The Reject Shop, which saw its share price double after being acquired by a Canadian company.
Their classmate Ryder Briffa also delivered a strong performance, securing third place at the college and earning a cash prize.
The Sharemarket Game enables students to invest virtual money in real-time, with portfolio values reflecting actual share prices on the Australian Stock Exchange.
The prizes, jointly supported by the ASX and Hargraves, were presented at a recent school assembly with students, staff and families in attendance.
Yarrawonga College P-12 is committed to continuing the program, with high expectations for future participants following this year's impressive results.
