World Environment Day has been celebrated globally for over 50 years, and while there is still much work to be done, it’s also a moment to reflect on the progress we’ve made and the actions we can take together.
At BEAM Mitchell Environment Group, we believe every day is an opportunity to care for and celebrate our environment.
This year’s theme — plastic pollution — is a reminder of the challenges we face, but also of the power of collective action.
From taking steps to reduce waste and recycle more, to protecting forests and embracing renewable energy, we’re seeing steps forward in our community.
We’d love to see World Environment Day become a time when governments at all levels commit to clear and measurable goals for the year ahead — and then come back to share what’s been achieved.
Imagine the impact of celebrating real, tangible wins for our local environment and our planet each year!
At BEAM Mitchell Environment Group we think it’s worth celebrating big and small victories.
We celebrate progress in ending native forest logging and the steady growth of clean, cheap renewable energy.
We celebrate the beauty of our local reserves and landscapes, the deep knowledge and care of Taungurung and other Indigenous nations, and even the joy of a flourishing veggie patch or blooming front garden.
We welcome anyone to join us — you’ll find us throughout the year at local markets, during NAIDOC Week, or our Greater Glider Walks in the Tallarook and Mt Disappointment forests, or through our weekly EarthChat podcast and radio show on SeymourFM — all part of how we celebrate and protect the natural world around us.
Anyone who wants to get involved is welcome to be part of our volunteer-driven efforts to support our environment — locally and globally.

Let’s celebrate the environment not just one day a year, but every day — together.
