On Sunday, May 11, runners and walkers across the country will be participating in the event founded by Women in Super.
In its 28th year, the event boasts a usual 85,000 participants at 85 locations Australia-wide.
“The Mother’s Day Classic gives movement a meaningful mission,” Mother’s Day Classic Foundation chief executive Zara Lawless said.
“Whether you’re taking part for your sister, your mum, your best friend, yourself or simply to do something purposeful on Mother’s Day.
“Every step you take helps to fund the critical research that saves lives.
“We’re proud that the Mother’s Day Classic has become much more than a walk or run. It’s a shared annual ritual of support and hope.”
Over the years, the Mother’s Day Classic has donated more than $47 million to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Last year, attendees were able to choose to fundraise not only for breast cancer research, but also for that of ovarian cancer.
Some $1.2 million was donated in 2024 to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, while $2.1 million was donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
This year, the event will do the same, and is hoping to attract more participants than ever before.
Multiple events will be held around the region, including in:
- Seymour: Lions Park from 9am
- Alexandra, Yea and District: Yea Station Park from 8.30am
