As a not-for-profit, the dedication of local volunteers allows FamilyCare staff to better support their wide range of clients.
Volunteer and fundraising co-ordinator Andrea Tuohey said Seymour volunteer Jon Jones enabled FamilyCare to fulfil its wider vision.
“We thank our volunteers who so willingly give their time and skills to support our staff and clients,” Ms Tuohey said.
“What our volunteer does in Seymour are the jobs that our staff would normally be required to do.
“By doing those, it allows our staff to remain with their clients and continue to work with individuals, families and communities to increase wellbeing, build strength and encourage optimism to fulfil our vision of strong families and communities.”
FamilyCare operates throughout the Goulburn Valley region to aid families, children and young people.
The organisation is hoping to expand its reach in the Mitchell Shire, and with this comes new roles for prospective volunteers.
Ms Tuohey said there were a number of opportunities on offer for those interested.
“What we do is meet the volunteer and find out what their strengths and interests are,” she said
“If we match a role to that, we can ensure the role is fulfilling for the volunteers.
“We certainly don’t ask them to do anything that’s not within their skillset, however if they’d like to learn it, we can teach them a new skillset as well.”
A diverse range of opportunities are on offer for volunteers aged 16 and above.
From pruning the gardens and washing the fleet vehicles to transporting clients and providing a listening ear, the possibilities are endless.
Ms Tuohey said FamilyCare was incredibly appreciative of volunteers like Mr Jones.
“He’s really part of the team. We include him in everything and he really seems to enjoy it,” she said.
“We recently held an interview with him that we’re going to put on our social media page for National Volunteer Week and it was really fantastic to hear Jon reflect on his volunteering role and what he gets out of it.”
From May 19 to 25, volunteers across the country are being celebrated for National Volunteer Week.
FamilyCare is grateful for its volunteers who willingly give their time and skills to support both staff and clients.
