Secretary Michael Easton said the meeting’s purpose went beyond administrative duties.
“The AGM has a couple of purposes. One is regulatory — we have to tell everyone what’s been happening, get the finances done, that sort of thing,” he said.
“The other purpose is about getting people together to think about how we can have the Seymour we want — to celebrate some of the good things that are going on and look forward to the future.”
The group aims to ensure Seymour is reaching its full potential.
“We like Seymour, we’re not saying that we don’t like Seymour,” Mr Easton said.
“Seymour’s just not what we want it to be and we’re asking what are some of the things we can do to make Seymour an even better place.”
The Seymour We Want has been part of a range of projects in town, including being involved in the mural covering the Anzac Ave underpass.
Looking forward, the group has a particular interest in Mitchell Shire Council’s Seymour Community Wellbeing Hub, which is expected to be completed by January 2027.
“We’re interested in the wellbeing hub that’s been approved and trying to help that to be a place that is more than service provision,” Mr Easton said.
“It is actually about community-building and all the things which will make it so that people don’t have to use the services as much.”
The meeting will be held at The Centre, at 3 Wallis St, Seymour, on Tuesday, June 10, from 7pm to 8pm.
Attendees will hear from Mitchell Shire Council community projects manager Greg Drake, as well as from The Centre’s Barbara Walker.
All are welcome to attend to gain an understanding of what the group does for the town.
Mr Easton said all committee positions had been filled, so there was no pressure for attendees to take on a large role.
“The AGM part of the meeting will be over within 15 minutes and executive positions have been filled, so turning up doesn’t mean you will get a job. Don’t get scared off by that,” he said.
“The rest of the time will be about sharing information about what’s going on and encouraging each other.”
