Berrigan was a hive of activity when the Royal Flying Doctors rally passes through on May 31, after the trekkers left Albury on their way to Tasmania.
Their first stop was at the Doyle farm ‘Claredale’, where 200 people were treated to lunch from the Berrigan Public School P&F. It featured loaded potatoes locally grown by Hannah and Tom Kelly, as well as homemade soups and slices.
The feedback from trekkers was that it was easily the best lunch provided on the trek.
They were also impressed with the farming country they travelled through, and were keen to learn about agriculture in the area.
Many were given a short course in potato farming and were able to inspect some of the machinery involved.
A donation from the day will enable the school to plan playground upgrades, provide hats and beanies to students, and more.
