The ban will also apply to the North East district.
Despite rainfall recently, Victorians need to remain alert as hot, dry and wind conditions will elevate fire danger today.
Moderate and gusty north to north-westerly winds are expected to reach gusts of up to 70km/hr in some areas ahead of a south-westerly change in the afternoon.
Temperatures will sit around 30°C to 35°C statewide.
The ban means no fire can be lit in the open air or is allowed to remain alight from 12.01am to 11.59pm on the day of the declaration in affected districts.
CFA acting chief officer Alen Slijepcevic said the TFB has been declared due to the expected conditions across the North East and North Central regions tomorrow.
“The recent rainfall has put some moisture into the fuel, but with the dry conditions we’re still seeing, there are still concerns for elevated fire behaviour on days like tomorrow,” he said.
“The rain was welcomed, however heavy events like those recently mostly end up in run-offs.
“Without slow and steady rain and lots of it, there is a real possibility grassland will continue to dry out through autumn conditions like tomorrow and increase the fire risk.”
He encouraged people to follow the strict conditions associated with the ban and stay informed through the VicEmergency App and local radio stations.
Victorians can find out if it is a total fire ban in their district on the CFA website at www.cfa.vic.gov.au where information is usually published by 5pm the day before the ban.
