The shed was set up to provide somewhere safe and warm for women to go, have a cuppa and a chat and share some skills or learn new ones.
Secretary Dale Sheahan said women from Seymour, Yea, Nagambie, Broadford, Kilmore, Wandong, Avenel and surrounds visited the shed, which had proved a successful idea.
‘‘At the shed, women can spend time doing what they enjoy, with people they have met in a way that promotes inclusiveness and builds bonds among women of all ages and professions,’’ she said.
‘‘We’re pleased to have women from all over our region and sometimes further, drop in for a short time together with friends.
‘‘Some women stay all day while others can only manage a few hours but there is always room for more guests, ideas for things to do, and new ways to help.’’
Dale said there had been some changes through the years but the core values and the aim of the shed remained the same.
‘‘Our committee has changed through natural processes and needs of members, but the core continuity and stability remain,’’ she said.
‘‘We are now under the auspices of the Mitchell Christian Fellowship Church, who provide administrative support and training.
‘‘We are thankful for the Presbyterian Church allowing us to use the hall and store our copious materials, appliances, and craft items.
‘‘This year we supported the Transition Village Wallan by creatively displaying their secret raffle prizes and we received support from different local community groups like the CWA and the Seymour darts and dance groups.
‘‘The contributions from these groups have been encouraging and enabled us to purchase useful items.’’
Dale said the group was always open to new members, who would be greeted with friendly faces and a welcoming atmosphere.
‘‘The urn is always on, we provide a free lunch and sweet treats and many of our guests are skilled crafters and happy to offer advice,’’ she said.
‘‘We also know how to Google stuff when a task or new idea is out of our skill set.’’
