The truth is uncomfortable to admit: making exercise a priority again wasn’t really there.
Over the years, I have always oscillated between prioritising fitness and being completely sedentary.
The vicious cycle of demotivation I’ve been experiencing for the last year is a familiar place. Indulging in cigarettes is easier than going for a run.
Taking the crucial first step is a mental hurdle but can be challenging to overcome.
Yet, the solution is surprisingly simple.
Regular exercise has been proven to enhance concentration, motivation, memory and mood, with immediate benefits on the brain’s dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin levels, positively impacting focus and attention.
Starting from scratch again after a hiatus can be daunting, but studies have shown that regardless of previous inactivity, noticeable health changes only take six to eight weeks.
Sharing my journey with you makes me feel accountable though, as I don’t want to disappoint you.
So, thank you for joining me on this journey and for your patience while I navigate this rollercoaster of an experience.
Join me in exploring various Shepparton gyms and classes with a guide I’ve compiled, focusing on an authentic representation of Shepparton’s fitness industry. I aim to cater to a range of fitness goals.
The exercise program includes:
- Parkrun: I recently learned about Shepparton’s weekly parkrun, which takes place at the lake every Saturday at 8am. This free exercise opportunity will only require you to register online. Participants can walk or run the 5km circuit.
- Origin: This gym offers one-hour classes divided into three 20-minute cardio, strength and hypertrophy blocs.
- Nemesis: This gym offers CrossFit and mobility classes. Each class is 60 minutes long. I will be attending a CrossFit class.
- Resolute: They offer a rumble class, which is 45 minutes of non-stop action.
- MFS Gym: This gym doesn’t offer classes. I will attend this gym and do my workout to see the facilities and provide the option for those interested in doing their own thing.
- Aquamoves: They offer a variety of classes (in their gym or pool). To spice things up, I will attend one of their aqua classes, which minimally impacts joints and articulations for those interested.
- Muay Thai: Goulburn Valley Martial Arts offers Muay Thai classes for adult beginners on weeknights at 5.30pm, for those interested in making exercising a social activity too.
I look forward to sharing my progress with you.
