Tatura toilets get a makeover

For many people, visits to public toilets are an ordeal, but a newly constructed facility at Lake Bartlett, Tatura, with its freshly painted mural, will provide a more pleasant experience.

Tatura-based artist Rachel Doller, in collaboration with students from Sacred Heart School Tatura and Tatura Primary School, designed and painted the mural.

City of Greater Shepparton City Mayor Shane Sali said the mural would create “lasting connections to the local environment and the town”.

Ms Doller spent four days painting the mural, and she invited the students to assist her for two of those days.

The mural represents the themes of earth, sun, water and Lake Bartlett’s natural environment.

Ms Doller also took inspiration from “over 100 designs” consisting of various colours and shapes, which the students submitted.

Ms Doller, who was “born and bred” in Tatura, said her motivation for taking up the project was that she “got to work with the kids”.

Tatura was selected to have a new public toilet facility constructed as part of Greater Shepparton City Council’s public toilet renewal program.

Members of the Tatura Community Plan committee wanted to use the outside wall of the toilet to develop a mural that was unique to the town.

Cr Sali said he hoped residents and visitors to Tatura appreciated the time and effort that had gone into the mural to liven up an otherwise plain building.

He also commended Ms Doller, who “generously donated her time and skills to see this project come to life”.
