‘Special to the heart’: Mother’s Day Classic brings out crowd in Shepparton

Shepparton’s Victoria Park Lake was a sea of pink on Sunday, May 8, as nearly 300 people attended the 10th celebration of the Mother’s Day Classic.

Raising awareness and donations for breast cancer research, people of all ages — from young children in prams to elderly citizens — took part, running or walking 2km, 4km or 8km at the event.

Event co-ordinator Kathy Fuller said it was a day “special to the heart” and she thanked the community for participating.

“It’s a really joyful morning, it’s nice to see people happy, having a laugh and cheering people on — it’s a great way to start Mother’s Day,” she said.

“Anyone can be affected or impacted by cancer, whether it’s a family or friend, every dollar is an opportunity that provides funding for that important research.”

Whether it was people in pink dinosaur onesies, pink tutus or pets dressed in pink, the community came together for a cause supported by tens of thousands of Australians nationwide.

Among those at the event were master of ceremonies Bella Ainsworth, as well as a key member of the Mother’s Day Classic, Vicki Scott, who is currently tackling cancer.

“Victoria Park Lake always shines, and it is a beautiful centrepiece, we look forward to be back in 2023,” Ms Fuller said.
