Shimmy over for the shimmer

Small Mouth Vodka distiller Paul Addis could be the Willy Wonka of vodka, with some of the colourful, shimmering and swirling tricks up his sleeve on display at this year's expo.

Small Mouth Vodka brings 10 of its products to this year’s expo, and although the relatively new company is remaining tight-lipped about the secret behind their ‘shimmer’ recipe, they hope visitors won’t be tight-lipped with sampling the range of vodka, gin and liqueurs on offer.

Company owner and distiller Paul Addis said the effect of shimmering in vodka was not widespread and, of the four Australian distillers who have developed the effect, his method had an added advantage.

“The shimmer is a secret of ours,” Paul said.

“We have made it from a unique formula, and unlike with other vodkas, the shimmer stays inside the drink once it has been added to carbonated mixers.”

Small Mouth Vodka will be conducting free tastings at the expo and giving visitors an inside look at tasting profiles.

Adding to the show is a display of bottles in which the contents swirl continuously, as well as the brand’s elderflower colour-changing gin.

However, among all the magic on display, Paul keeps his passion simple.

“Vodka is a cleaner, nicer spirit; but then I am biased.”
