Seymour’s Old Courthouse Gallery is open after COVID-19

After a year-and-a-half of closed doors due to the pandemic, the Seymour and District Art Society opened its gallery doors on Sunday, March 12.

The Old Courthouse Gallery is Seymour’s only community art gallery and the art society celebrated its opening with a free barbecue and live music.

Art society president Terri MacDonald said it was a happy occasion for the gallery.

“We are very pleased to be welcoming visitors back and being able to showcase regional art,” Dr MacDonald said.

“We were also pleased to see our members reconnecting again after what has been a difficult two years.”

The gallery has original artworks by art society members hanging, as well as a feature exhibition by Nagambie artist and art society member Bob Eaten.

All artworks are for sale.

The gallery is funded with a grant from Mitchell Shire Council, and deputy mayor Fiona Stevens and councillor Rhonda Sanderson attended the open day.

“I’d like to thank deputy mayor Stevens and Cr Sanderson for coming by and showing their support for local artists and regional art today as well,” Dr MacDonald said.

“We are now looking forward to returning to our packed calendar of arts activities, workshops and shows, and to grow our membership and engage more with the local community.”
