The pool season officially opened on Saturday, December 3, but Seymour War Memorial Outdoor Pool will be closed this summer.
Repairs to the damage caused by the October floods are expected to take months, forcing the closure of the pool for the summer season.
Broadford and Tallarook outdoor pools and the splash park at Wallan are on track for a summer opening and will remain free.
The outdoor pools will be open on days when the temperature is 26ºC or higher.
Mitchell Shire Mayor Fiona Stevens said the closure was for the health and safety of the community.
“We know the special place the Seymour War Memorial Outdoor Pool has with our community and we’re incredibly disappointed that we will not be able to open this summer. However, it’s just not safe to reopen,” Cr Stevens said.
“The pools have been contaminated with floodwater. We’ve had damage to the plant room — which houses the pool’s filtration system, chemical feeders and pumps — as well as structural cracking in the masonry wall and change rooms.
“The facility ... is also expected to be subject to mould in the coming weeks and months.”
