TheTelegraph reported last week a preliminary presidents vote had been held on June 9, which found six out of eight clubs felt a season could not be properly implemented with current COVID-19 restrictions.
While clubs awaited more guidance on government restrictions, another meeting last week confirmed the season would not go ahead.
Following discussions with clubs, it was determined only three clubs were able to field teams which was ultimately not enough to hold a viable season.
Other concerns cited by the league included the health and safety of players, families and the wider community, as well as the rigorous guidelines and COVID-19 protocols clubs would be required to adhere to.
“Whilst it is disappointing for the Seymour District JFNL to not play in the 2020 season, this decision has been made with the community’s safety and best interests in mind,” AFL Goulburn Murray region general manager Jamie Macri said.
