Mr Sleep commenced the role on Monday, October 16.
Having worked all over Australia in various on-air and off-air position this is his first time as a station manager, and Seymour FM is a huge achievement in his career.
“I’ve never worked a day in my life ... I have a hobby, and my hobby’s radio,” Mr Sleep said.
“When you’ve got a hobby, you enjoy doing what you’re doing.”
Mr Sleep said he wanted to nurture volunteers and make the radio station a welcoming place.
“I feel that after 32 years of commercial radio ... I think I’ve gotta pass this on somebody else,” he said.
He said Seymour FM had a lot planned for next year, especially since the station received an Australian Communications and Media Authority, five-year full-time licence renewal.
“We’re reformatting the whole station,” he said.
“More music, nice talk programs, and we’re going to try and get so much of the primary schools, high schools, the colleges all involved.”
Mr Sleep wanted to involve students of all ages interested in media.
“Everybody has to have a working with children check so we can have children on the premises; it’s what we want,” Mr sleep said.
“We wanted to become like a community hub for everybody where people can come.”
Mr Sleep’s goal is to make Seymour FM a welcoming place for everyone.
“I’m excited to be in the community and see the smiling faces and knowing that we can reach out to them, and they can reach out to us,” he said.
“I want one big happy family here ... at the radio station where everybody is welcome.”
Mr Sleep said he was grateful to Seymour FM and the fact that they did the hard work.
“They actually got through the community broadcasting foundation ... (and) got a grant for me to come into and be the station manager,” he said.
The last thing he wanted to say was to the Seymour FM staff.
“It’s onwards and upwards from here; the sky’s the limit,” Mr Sleep said.
