For Police Remembrance Day, the store on Station St in Seymour and its sister bakery in Heathcote donated $1 from every pie bought to the Blue Ribbon Foundation.
Incorporated in 1998, the foundation funds the delivery of new and improved medical facilities in Victoria’s public hospitals, which are named in memory of fallen police officers.
Sixty-nine dedicated units have been funded so far, 44 of of them regionally.
Wearing a commemorative police ribbon, Julia Gaffney said the fundraising was particularly significant as her family had ties to Victoria Police.
“We have two family members who are police, my nephew and his fiancée,” she said.
“After what happened, with the police being killed (in Porepunkah) recently, when this day came up, we thought we should do something.
“The police in our family have only been (officers) for a couple of years. (The Porepunkah tragedy) had a big impact. Our family thought it could have been our nephew, so that made us think about what we can do.”
With a goal of raising $1000 on the day, it was all about showing support for local officers at Gaffney’s.
Along with its primary deal, the bakery also donated $2 from every family pie and 50c from every party pie and party sausage roll sold.
“We have a lot of police who are our customers in Seymour and Heathcote, they support us a lot,” Ms Gaffney said.
“They’re really good customers, they’re all very nice and polite.
“They support the community and they support us a business.”
