The project is being delivered in a two-stage program, with the initial stage involving barrier repair works.
The works are being undertaken as a result of structural damage being identified during routine inspections.
Construction is expected to start in the coming weeks, with Mitchell Shire Council to update its website and Facebook page once dates are confirmed.
The current stage will focus on structural rehabilitation of the bridge deck and resurfacing, with new asphalt to reinstate its functionality, reopen it to two-way traffic and improve its long-term durability.
During the project the Oak St bridge will be temporarily closed to all vehicle and pedestrians, including local traffic.
Oak St will also be temporarily closed between the Wimble St roundabout and the Tarcombe Rd/High St railway level crossing, but will be accessible to local traffic.
The Oak and Mentor Sts intersection will be temporarily closed, but will be accessible to local traffic, while the Oak St and Abdallah Rd intersection will be temporarily closed to all traffic.
Council is asking drivers to allow extra travel time and follow the directions of traffic controllers and signage.
Signed detours for heavy and high clearance vehicles will be in place via Wimble St, Delatite Rd, Tarcombe Rd and High St.
Council thanks the community for its patience while these works are completed and will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.
