Meeting in the chilly morning air, more than 30 ladies gathered at Bangerang Park to begin their third 2km walk in aide of vital research that is saving children’s lives.
Formed six years ago as a small group of community minded ladies seeking friendship, the Inner Wheel organisation of Corowa is now more than 40 members strong and still growing.
Official Coordinator for the group, Margaret Playford, expressed her gratitude for the closeness and companionship of the ladies.
“We are really just a friendship group that is passionate about helping children,” Ms Playford said.
“Cord Blood Research is not only the organisation’s national fundraising support partner, but also a cause that is very close to all of the women’s hearts.
“What the researchers are achieving with disorders like Cerebral Palsy is incredible and we are so proud to be contributing to that with our fundraising efforts.”
Offering members social connection and the opportunity to contribute to their community, the group get together once a month at the Corowa Golf Club for a meeting and lively lunch.
“As you can see, we’re all over 35 now and don’t get out as much as we used to,” Ms Playford chuckled.
“It’s great to be able to get together each month and see our friends and catch up on their news.”
The ladies are all very excited to be hosting the National Inner Wheel Conference in October 2025.
Not only will they have an opportunity to mingle with women from all over the country, but they will also host research professionals sharing updates on how Inner Wheel’s contributions are helping to save the lives of children with leukemia, heart disease and diabetes.
In the lead up to this big event, the Corowa ladies have a number of initiatives planned to further boost the value of their contributions; their annual walk being the first.
Departing through an archway adorned with red balloons, the ladies set off into a rising sun eager to ensure the success of their endeavour and returned with warm hearts to gather, socialise and enjoy a delicious barbecue breakfast.
